The state’s latest vision for redevelopment of the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor calls for a partner willing to participate on an upgrade, estimated to cost $251 million to $356 million, that focuses on delivering essential harbor functions, improving community amenities and preparing for climate change.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation hired the University of Hawaii Community Design Center and UH’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning in November 2020 to provide proof of concept conceptual planning and design services to shape the state’s next attempt to procure a partner to redevelop the aging facility.
