Boy on e-bike critically hurt after being struck in Ewa Beach

A 12-year-old boy was critically injured Thursday after the electric bike he was riding was struck by a passing car in Ewa Beach, police said.

The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division report said that about 2:10 p.m. the boy was traveling south on Kapolei Parkway in a marked crosswalk and disregarded a “Do Not Walk” signal and was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Keoneula Boulevard.

The boy suffered injuries to his head and body. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated him and took him to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, was uninjured and remained at the scene, police said.

The boy was not wearing a helmet, according to police, who added that speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors of this collision.
