Brown water advisories in effect for Oahu’s North Shore

Mindy Pennybacker

Brown water advisories are in effect for Laniakea Beach and Waimea Bay Beach on Oahu’s North Shore due to runoff from streams into coastal waters, the state Department of Health Clean Water Branch announced today.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris, the advisory said.

It added that while not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, if the water is brown, stay out.
