Veterans honored at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

People gathered to honor and remember U.S. service members on Veterans Day at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on Friday. Pictured holding a shaka at the ceremony is Vietnam War veteran Allan Jay Kellogg who is a Medal of Honor recipient. Kellogg received the award for quickly pushing a live enemy grenade into the mud and then covering it with his body which shielded his fellow Marines from the explosion.

Vietnam War veteran and POW James Hickerson shakes hands with U.S. Marine Corps Col. Tim Brady. Hickerson was shot down as an A-7 naval fighter pilot and was forced to eject over north Vietnam. He was held as a prisoner for over 1,900 days in Hanoi and finally released as part of Operation Homecoming on March 14, 1973.
