Police say they arrested a 36-year-old man who asked to borrow $700 from his 27-year-old girlfriend in Ala Moana after he allegedly choked her and took her cell phone when she didn’t have the money.

The incident happened at about 3 p.m. yesterday. Police said the couple agreed to meet in Ala Moana and the suspect became angry when she didn’t have the money.

The woman went to the Kaneohe Police Station with her aunt to report the incident. While at the station, police said the boyfriend called the aunt and arranged to meet her at woman’s Kaneohe home.

Police were also waiting for the suspect and arrested him when he showed up at about 5:10 p.m.
