Witness helps police catch car break-in suspects
An alert witness helped police capture a man and woman who allegedly broke into a car at a scenic lookout on Kalanianaole Highway yesterday afternoon.
Police said a 37-year-old Kaimuki woman tried to distract the witness while a 34-year-old Chinatown man smashed the rear window of a parked car to steal items at 4:15 p.m.
But the witness saw the couple flee and wrote down the license plate of the car, police said. Police arrested the suspects nearby at Sandy Beach.
