Seasiders to host NCAA regional

The 18th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s soccer team was awarded one of 16 subregionals for the NCAA Division II championship.

The Seasiders (14-1-2), ranked No. 2 in the west region, have a first-round bye. On Saturday, BYUH will play the winner of Thursday’s match between UC San Diego (14-2-3) and San Francisco State (11-4-5).

Both contests are at 7 p.m. at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Saturday’s winner will face the winner of the other West subregional hosted by Seattle Pacific, the region’s No. 1, on Nov. 19. The Falcons (15-1-2) have a bye and will take on the winner of Thursday’s match between Cal State Los Angeles (15-3-1) and Montana State Billings (12-5-1).

The third round will be at the site of the highest remaining seed.

PacWest men’s champion Grand Canyon (14-2-2) faces Cal State San Bernardino (13-5-1) in the Super Region 4 hosted by Chico State.

UHH volleyball looks to clinch

Defending champion Hawaii-Hilo can clinch a share of the conference volleyball title with a win tomorrow at Chaminade, the first of three road matches to conclude the regular season.

The Vulcans (17-3, 12-1) also have to travel to Brigham Young-Hawaii on Friday and Hawaii Pacific on Saturday. The Seasiders (14-7, 11-3) and Sea Warriors (17-6, 11-4) are mathematically alive in the title hunt, although a win by Hawaii-Hilo tomorrow would eliminate HPU from contention.

Show highlights basketball teams

A look at the preseason All-PacWest men’s and women’s basketball teams and a feature on Hawaii Pacific volleyball player Kelly Balanay highlight tonight’s PacWest Magazine television show on OC 16.

The show also has a highlight tour around the conference in men’s and women’s soccer. Broadcast time is 8 p.m.

Radio show debuts

The PacWest Magazine radio show debuts this morning at 10 on thepacwest.com. The all-conference men’s and women’s soccer teams will be announced.
