Medical Examiner identifies Waimanalo drowning victim

 

The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 35-year-old man who died in Waimanalo Bay Saturday after getting into distress while snorkeling with his family as Richard Matapua, of Waialua.

An autopsy will be conducted today to determine Matapua’s cause of death.

The man was snorkeling around 2:45 p.m. and became unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital and did not recover, police said.
