Hawaii sophomore Kaia Parnaby threw a perfect game to lead the Rainbow Wahine to a 6-0 win over Weber State today in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational.
Parnaby struck out a career high 12 batters in her first perfect game at UH before a crowd of about 900 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
First baseman Sarah Robinson went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs and catcher Sharla Kliebenstein had two RBIs and the Wahine improved to 14-4 with two wins today. They defeated South Dakota State 6-0 in their first game of the day.
UH’s last perfect game came last season when Stephanie Ricketts threw a five-inning gem at Nevada.
In UH’s first game of the day, Ricketts struck out 11 in a complete-game win against South Dakota State. She gave up three hits and walked one.
After four scoreless innings, the Wahine scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Hawaii loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter. Alex Aguirre then walked to score Jazmine Zamora with the game’s first run. Kelly Majam came in on Melissa Gonzalez’ fielder’s choice grounder and Kliebenstein delivered an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
Robinson’s single to right scored two more runs. Robinson stole second and came around on Ricketts’ infield single to third.
Against Weber State, UH gave Parnaby all the run support she needed by jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Kliebenstein was hit with the bases loaded, Jenna Rodriguez singled in another run and Robinson looped a two-run single into right field.
Kliebenstein extended the lead to 5-0 with an RBI single to left in the third inning and Robinson brought her in with her third hit of the game.
In the top of the seventh, Parnaby fielded Kami Johnson’s grounder for the first out. She then struck out Erika James and Rodriguez sealed the perfect game by tracking down Brooke Silva’s foul fly to right.

The tournament concludes Sunday. Weber State and South Dakota State meet at 10 a.m. and Hawaii plays St. Bonaventure at noon. The bottom two seeds play at 2 p.m. and the top two teams play for the championship at 4.
