UH softball: UH sweeps Nevada

The Hawaii softball team completed a sweep of its Western Athletic Conference series with Nevada by taking both ends of today’s doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Rainbow Wahine sophomore Kaia Parnaby earned a complete-game win in UH’s 8-1 victory in the first game. She returned to pick up a save in the finale, a 5-4 Wahine win.

UH improved to 28-12 overall and 6-3 in WAC play. Nevada dropped to 10-25 and 1-8.

In the opener, freshman catcher Sharla Kliebenstein’s grand slam in the fourth inning highlighted a five-run UH rally. With the game tied 1-1, Nevada starter Mallary Darby walked four consecutive hitters to give UH the lead and Kliebenstein launched her 11th home run of the season to give Parnaby a comfortable lead.

Nevada jumped out to a lead in the second game on Erin Jones’ solo homer in the second inning before UH broke out for five runs in the fourth on four singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly.

The Wolf Pack rallied for three runs in the sixth, scratching out four consecutive singles off of UH starter Stephanie Ricketts. UH head coach Bob Coolen then summoned Parnaby with the bases loaded and one out and she responded by striking out the next two hitters to preserve the lead.
