State tax collections are up in the first three months of fiscal year

State tax collections are up 32.4 percent three months into the new fiscal year, according to the state Department of Taxation, a figure inflated by former Gov. Linda Lingle’s decision to delay income tax refunds in 2010.

If the impact of the delayed refunds were factored out, tax collections would be up 9.8 percent through September.

The state Council on Revenues has projected 14.5 percent growth this fiscal year.

Over the first three months of the fiscal year, general excise and use taxes – the largest single category – rose 7.1 percent. Hotel-room taxes are up 13.9 percent.
