Judge grants extradition of Ewa Beach man in Utah murder

A state Circuit Court  judge this morning ordered the extradition of a 59-year-old Ewa Beach man wanted in Utah for a 1997 homicide.

Alan Lee Marx waived his rights to challenge the extradition.

Detectives from Utah are already here to escort Marx to Salt Lake City, said Janice Futa, deputy city prosecutor.

Utah officials said recent DNA evidence link Marx to the March 20, 1997, homicide of 77-year-old Ward Woolverton, whose body was found at a homeless camp below an interstate freeway viaduct.

Prosecutors say the DNA evidence was found on a bloody shirt near the body.

Prosecutors say Marx and Woolverton were seen drinking together in the days before Woolverton was killed. Both men also were staying at a nearby Salt Lake City homeless shelter at the time.

An autopsy found Woolverton died from head wounds.
