Honolulu police captured Darryl Prophet

A 46-year-old man who escaped from the  Hawaii State Hospital last month will stand trial on escape charges in July.

Darryl Prophet will face escape charges July before Circuit Judge Karen Ahn. He is being held in Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $11,000 bail.

Prophet, also known as Darryl Sumlin, was sent to the State Hospital in January 2010 after his indictment in Hilo in December 2009 for assault in the second degree, court records show. He was found not guilty in July 2010 after a team of psychologists and psychiatrists examined his mental fitness to stand trial.

He escaped April 29 and was picked up May 3 without incident near Heeia Pier.

Court records also show Prophet had recently been seeking conditional release or discharge from the hospital.
