Carrillo is Chaminade hoops coach

Veteran junior college coach Jerry Carrillo was named the new men’s basketball coach at Chaminade on Monday.

Carrillo, who went 349-159 in 16 years at Cochise (Ariz.) College, was selected among a pool of over 200 applicants for the Silverswords’ vacancy.

Under Carrillo’s watch, Cochise never had a losing season and advanced to 15 straight Region I Junior College postseasons.

Carrillo, who got a strong word of support from Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon, replaces six-year Silverswords coach Matt Mahar, who left for Assumption (Mass.) College.
