The U.S. Postal Service unveiled five aloha shirt postcard stamps that will be available next year.

Five stamps with different, multi-colored aloha shirts were  designed by art director Carl Herrman from photos taken by photos local photographer Ric Noyle.

On its Beyondtheperf.com stamp collectors’ website, the postal service said the stamps celebrate the spirit of Aloha.

Two of the five shirts depicted in the stamp art showcase surfers and their boards; one shows fossil fish, shells, and sea stars; another shows the bird of paradise flower; and one shows Kilauea volcano.

The designs were unveiled over the weekend on the U.S. Postal Service Facebook page and on the beyondtheperf.com website.

About 50,000 recommendations are sent to the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee every year, and less than two dozen are selected for the stamp program, said Duke Gonzales, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service in Hawaii.

"Certainly it’s a rare honor to have an artist’s image or some type of item depicted on a stamp," Gonzales said. "Anytime Hawaii is represented at all, we’re excited."
