No tsunami from strong quake off Alaska

A strong earthquake struck this morning off Alaska’s Aleutian Islands but did not generate a Pacific-wide tsunami, officials said.

The magnitude 6.0 quake struck at 6:56 a.m. near the epicenter (5:56 a.m. in Hawaii) at a depth of 13 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was 75 miles west-northwest of Attu Station, Alaska.

The West Coast-Alaska Tsunami Warning Center issued a bulletin that a tsunami was not expected.
