Hawaii County police charged a 25-year-old Kalapana man Thursday for making a false report of a gun threat Monday at a Hilo college campus.

Police arrested Louis H. Bartlow and charged him with false reporting to law enforcement authorities, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

His bail was set at $500, and he is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court today.

On Monday morning, Bartlow claimed to be a University of Hawaii at Hilo employee and reported that he had been accosted by a man armed with a firearm on campus, police said.
