U.S. embassy in Manila warns of threat against Americans

U.S. citizens face a threat in the Philippines, particularly in Pasay City south of the capital, the U.S. Embassy said on its website today, citing “reliable security forces.”

The U.S. urged its citizens to maintain a low profile and report security concerns to Philippine authorities.

“The U.S. ambassador has ordered an augmented security profile for all U.S. government facilities in Manila,” according to the statement, which didn’t give details on the specific threat. The warnings remains in effect until Oct. 10, according to the statement.

Philippine police will coordinate with the embassy for appropriate security measures, spokesman Generoso Cerbo said in a mobile-phone message today.
