Another suspicious brush fire reported on Kauai

Firefighters battled a Lihue brush fire Wednesday night, another in a string of blazes believed to be intentionally set since December.

“We’ve been fortunate up to now that fires have not spread to nearby homes or businesses,” said Fire Prevention Bureau Capt. Daryl Date in a news release. “However, as we head into the dry season, that becomes a threat of increasing concern.”

No injuries were reported in the Wednesday fire, according to a news release from the Kauai Fire Department.

The brush fire estimated at less than one-acre occurred at about 10:30 p.m. along Niumalu Road, across from Garden Island Disposal. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 11 p.m.

No structures were affected.

Officials are asking the public’s assistance in locating the person or person’s responsible for setting the brush fire.

Anyone with information on the brush fire is urged to call the Kauai Police Department at 241-1711.
