A fan used an umbrella as a windbreak while waiting for players to tee off at the first hole at the Tournament of Champions golf tournament on Friday in Kapalua. After a morning of wind and rain, tournament officials suspended play and scrapped the first round.

KAPALUA » The start of the PGA Tour season will have to wait another day after PGA Tour officials decided the wind was blowing too hard today.

One day after the opening round to the 2013 season was wiped out because of high wind on Friday, the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions was delayed by three hours this morning because conditions were just as bad.

Rickie Fowler went out to the practice range at the first hint of light, and about 20 minutes later he was back inside.

Hunter Mahan said he has seen wind blow this hard before, but not for such a prolonged amount of time. Tour officials said golf balls rolled off the 10th green and down the hill because of the wind. Holes No. 10, 11 and 13 are exposed to the normal tradewinds that blow through this part of Maui.
