Sheryl Perez and James Staples

Sheryl Mayumi Perez and James Frederick Staples were married May 22 in a ceremony on Makapuu Beach officiated by the Rev. Watters Glover.

The bride is the daughter of Wanda Sanaye Saiki of Honolulu and the late Roy Taiichi Saiki of Waipahu. The groom is the son of Paul Raymond Staples of Greenville, Ky., and Jeannie Staples of Seoul.

They live in South Pasadena, Calif.

The small ceremony was attended by the bride’s mother, who also served as her maid of honor; her brother Royce Saiki, his wife, Lisa Lawson, and their daughter Tien; and her sister Sheila Saiki, with children Shae and Misha.

Evelyn and Albert Cortez

Evelyn Pua-Haunani Manaku Cortez and Albert Bok-Sung Cortez celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 23 with a party at home.

The Cortezes were married May 23, 1964, at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Wahiawa.

They have two children — Albert Jason Cortez and Dorinna Manuel-Cortez — six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

They live in Hilo.
