Hawaii Electric Light crews restored power to 1,300 customers in Puna overnight, but about 1,100 customers still did not have electricity Monday afternoon and Hawaii County Civil Defense officials said some of them may not have service restored until later in the week.

"Although almost all major highways and roadways are cleared and open, some subdivision roads may still have downed trees and power lines," Civil Defense officials said in a message posted on the county website. "Some area residents are advised to prepare for the possibility of extended outages through this week."

Maui Electric Light Co. said power was restored to all but 20 customers overnight and crews were back in the field Monday to restore electricity to the remaining five customers in Olinda and 15 customers in pockets of Haiku.

About 3,520 customers on Maui lost power because of high winds and rains from a passing cold front Friday and Saturday.

Hawaii Electric Light Company said service was restored in portions of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Orchidland, Ainaloa, Leilani Estates, Lanipuna, Hawaiian Acres, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale, Tangerine Acres, Fern Forest, Fern Acres, Eden Roc, Wood Valley, South Point and Ahualoa.

Crews continued working Monday in portions of Ainaloa, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale, Leilani Estates, Lanipuna and Hawaiian Acres.

Service for customers in Nanawale, Leilani Estates and Lanipuna may not be restored until Wednesday, the utility said.

“We know that being without electricity for an extended period of time is frustrating and difficult,” said Kristen Okinaka, Hawai‘i Electric Light spokesperson. “We want to thank customers for their patience and support."

Hawaii Electric Light Co. said residents should treat downed power lines and energized and dangerous and should not handle or move any fallen utility equipment.

Hawaiian Electric Co. said crews had restored all major outages on Oahu overnight Saturday into Sunday.
