Search launched after surfboard washes ashore

The Coast Guard is trying to find the owner of a seven-foot surfboard that washed ashore at Nimitz Beach near White Plains Wednesday.

The Tanaka surfboard is white with no leash attached and was discovered at 5:37 p.m.

A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and the Honolulu Fire Department searched the area Wednesday. Fire rescue personnel called off their efforts after they were no reports of missing persons or distress reports.

Anyone with information that may help identify the owner of the surfboard is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center at (808) 842-2600.
