Hawaii outside hitter Nikki Taylor hits past UC Irvine's Ella Rosenfeld and Allison Lee in the first set of the UC Irvine vs. Hawaii volleyball match at Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii’s strength of schedule and record this season has led to a No. 17 ranking in the first NCAA women’s volleyball ratings percentage Index (RPI) released Monday.

The RPI is used by the NCAA to help seed the top 16 teams in the postseason tournament as well as determine host schools for the first and second rounds. Hawaii opened at No. 3 last season and was at No. 11 when selected to host last December.

The Rainbow Wahine (12-3, 4-0 Big West), riding a seven-match win streak, also moved up three spots to No. 21 in Monday’s AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll.

Stanford  (14-0) is No. 1 both in the RPI and the poll.
