No. 6 Hawaii, led by Nikki Taylor’s 20 kills, won its 16th straight Friday night with a 26-28, 25-22, 25-13, 25-20 victory over Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine improved to 21-1 overall, 11-0 in Big West volleyball. The 49ers (20-6, 10-3) saw their conference home winning streak snapped at 16 dating back to 2013.

Tai Manu-Olevao and Emily Maglio added 11 kills, while Olivia Magill and Kalei Greeley each had 10 as Hawaii had five attackers in double figures for the second time this season. The Rainbow Wahine, the top-blocking team in the country, out-blocked the 49ers 14-10. with Magill in on six and Maglio five.

Magill had no hitting errors on 21 swings and Maglio had one error, that coming late in Set 4, on 20 attempts. Both Savanah Khaki and Taylor had 14 digs.

Hawaii had six aces, four by Tayler Higgins when the Wahine opened Set 4 on an 8-0 run. 

Nele Barber led The Beach with 16 kills and Mynah Wilson had 17 digs. The 49ers had only dropped three sets in conference play at home before Friday night.

Hawaii is at Cal State Northridge  (5-18, 4-7) on Saturday. The Matadors have beaten the Wahine the last two times the teams have met in the Matadome. 

Long Beach State defeated Hawaii last season twice, both matches going five sets. The Wahine rallied for a five-set win last month at the Stan Sheriff Center.
