A 47-year-old Kaneohe man admitted to police that he stabbed his 55-year-old uncle in the back during a family argument in Kaneohe, according to court documents.

Bryan Lucrecio was arrested March 29 and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Darryl Tomita.

A preliminary hearing will be held Tuesday in District Court.

According to a police affidavit filed in District Court Friday, Tomita was arguing with his stepfather in the hallway of their home on Waikapoki Road just before 5:30 p.m. on March 29.

A witness told police that the suspect approached Tomita from behind and stabbed him once in his upper back.

Lucrecio fled the scene, but was found by police 15 minutes later with two men, who been asked by friends to help find the suspect, at Kaneohe Bay Plaza on William Henry Road.

Lucrecio had his hands up and identified himself to the approaching police officer, the police affidavit said.

When a police officer ordered the suspect to lie down, Lucrecio allegedly said: “I know why you here. I stabbed Darryl because of a family dispute. I sorry I did that.”

Tomita was taken to Castle Medical Center in extremely critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services. He later died at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner’s office has not released the official cause of Tomita’s death.

Lucrecio was previously convicted 12 times.

Lucrecio was convicted in 2013 of two counts of second-degree assault on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest — all misdemeanors, according to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center. He also was convicted of first-degree terroristic threatening, a felony, in 1993.
