Ex-staffer at HPU pleads not guilty in theft case

A former Hawaii Pacific University administrative assistant pleaded not guilty last week to a second-degree theft charge of stealing at least $13,000 from school parking fees.

Dorothy Inouye, 47, was given a trial date of Nov. 14 by Circuit Judge Richard Perkins.

Inouye was the administrative assistant to the school’s vice president when she didn’t turn in at least $13,000 from May to September 2009, prosecutors said.

Inouye, who was indicted on the theft charge by an Oahu grand jury on Aug. 30, is free on $11,000 bail.

The second-degree theft charge carries a prison term of up to five years.
