Landmark Moiliili sign has something to say again

The Hawaiian Rent-All sign, blown down by strong winds in March, is back up again. Its first message is “Loading…”.

The Hawaiian Rent-All sign, which displays often humorous messages to passing motorists, disappeared in March, a victim not of hot air, but strong winds.
The message board above the Hawaiian Rent-All store in Moiliili is no longer at a loss for words.
The sign, a beloved landmark at the corner of McCully and South Beretania streets, has been amusing drivers and passersby for nearly 50 years.
Original owner Gordon W.S. Loui began posting humorous and topical messages on the board in 1968 as a means of free advertising.
He sold the business and retired, but the messages continued.
Strong winds in March blew the face off the message board, leaving the new owners speechless.
The sign was finally replaced last week .
Its first message is “LOADING…”

If it wasn’t for this sign, I would otherwise fall asleep in my car–in front of the Shell Gas Station–waiting for the light to change…

One of the best signs in the Nei. Always loved driving buy and wondering what the sign would say.

No need to be distracted while driving; just look straight ahead.

wightj probably needs speed-reading classes. If he can’t read the Hawaiian Rent-All sign while driving, he probably has to drive slowly to read the freeway signs.
Most, who only “look straight ahead” have no peripheral-vision and cause multiple accidents. They don’t know that they have caused these accidents because also–they don’t look in their rearview mirrors and see the damage they’ve left behind… I’ll bet your car looks like a former entry in “Demolition Derby”…
Unlike their ShopVacs, their sign never sucks.
