Email leaks force Democratic chairwoman to resign

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., announced she would step down as DNC chairwoman at the end of the party’s convention. Her resignation follows the leak of some 19,000 emails, presumably stolen by hackers and posted to the website Wikileaks, that suggest the DNC favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders.
PHILADELPHIA >> Democratic National Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Sunday afternoon that she would quit as head of the party this week, after leaked emails appeared to show bias against Bernie Sanders during his primary challenge to Hillary Clinton.
“I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America’s future,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement. “I look forward to serving as a surrogate for her campaign in Florida and across the country to ensure her victory.”
Wasserman Schultz, a member of the U.S. House from Florida, had been under pressure to resign. The controversy threatened turmoil on the eve of the party convention in Philadelphia, designed to show unity.
Earlier, Wasserman Schultz was removed as permanent chair of the convention, to be replaced by U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio.
In a statement, Clinton said she was grateful to Wasserman Schultz for getting “the Democratic Party to this year’s historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week’s events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership.”
Sanders and his backers have long accused Wasserman Schultz’s DNC of putting its thumb on the scale to help Clinton. The party apparatus is supposed to remain impartial in contested races for the nomination.
Earlier Sunday, Sanders had called for Wasserman Schultz to resign.
“I told you long time ago that the DNC was not running a fair operation, that they were supporting Secretary Clinton,” Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.” “So what I suggested to be true six months ago turned out to be true.”
Sanders later said in a statement that Wasserman Schultz made the right decision for the future of the Democratic Party.
“While she deserves thanks for her years of service, the party now needs new leadership that will open the doors of the party and welcome in working people and young people,” Sanders said. “The party leadership must also always remain impartial in the presidential nominating process, something which did not occur in the 2016 race.”
Wasserman Schultz said her resignation would take effect after the convention. Party officials said she would gavel the gathering to order Monday and close it on Thursday, but would have no major speaking role.
A trove of 20,000 emails of top DNC officials released Friday by Wikileaks backed up the fears of Sanders’ campaign. They showed DNC staffers suggesting attacking Sanders on his religious beliefs, and planning to scuttle a previously agreed to debate before the June 3 California primary because that was what Clinton’s team wanted.

As everyone has expected for two past two years, Debbie Wasserman, and the Democrat party have been in the tank for Clinton. Bernie supporters should be outraged.. They never had a chance. If the RNC behaved this way, Chris Mathews, Rachel Madcow, and the entire cnn staff, would be apoplectic. Just another typical day for the Dems of lying and cheating, and the reason Clinton is going to get smoked in November. Folks have had it with their crooked ways. Baloney, if it take a computer hack to show that Schultz is biased, then Schultz was very unbiased in her behavior.
That is what counts. Even the state democratic party chair in Hawaii is a Sanders campaign worker. We know how he is biased. But what he says and does should not reflect his bias. His private comments and his private email are off-limits to this kind of scrutiny.

Difference is as we speak Bernie Sanders is a party man and was on with George Stephanoulos and has called The Chump the most unqualified person in his life time to be a presidential candidate. I’m one staunch Bernie supporter who will certainly campaign against the orange bufo. As much as I’m disgusted with the DNC’s shoddy antics, that’s something we fix from inside the party — and we will. If the bufo gets into the oval office it’ll destroy America as we know it. No intra-party pilau politics will deter me from doing everything I can to prevent that disaster.
This year we aren’t voting for the “better choice”, but the lesser of the evils. But politics is the art of the possible.

The only way this revelation came to light is because Russian hackers exposed it. What about the hundreds, if not thousands, of Democrats who received this biased silent endorsement? Where was the outcry from these purveyors of credibility? This blatant omission does not speak highly of their integrity and moral fortitude. If I were a Bernie supporter, I’d be livid! What, you expected better of them?

DWS always struck me as a vile individual out of place to be a party chairperson. She came across as a mean spirited campaigning politician instead of a spokesperson and/or statesperson, which I think are better qualities in the position she held. I’m not surprised with what has been uncovered. While the RNC was having similar insider turmoil I thought their party chairperson handled it more appropriately. BTW, the Demo’s were dancing in joy over the issues the Repub’s were dealing with last week. Look at them now.
