Firefighters rescue woman off Diamond Head trail
Honolulu firefighters airlifted a woman off the Diamond Head trail today after she experienced a medical emergency.
Five companies staffed with 16 HFD personnel responded to the 3:29 p.m. emergency call.
Firefighters hiked to the woman, assessed her condition, then prepared her to be transported via helicopter to a landing zone, where she was transferred to the care of waiting paramedics.

They needed five companies and 16 HFD personnel? Sounds like too many.
Depends on the scope of the job. Lets see Battalion Chief, Air one and T30, Probably an Engine Company and Ladder Company for manpower. Maybe even Rescue, depending on where the patient is located. Lots of logistics for a seemingly small job. It aint that small!
Instead of the firefighters delivering the patient to waiting paramedics, wouldn’t patient care be better if the firefighters were the paramedics? Time to move EMS to Fire, where it belongs.
Most FFs are EMT trained. They have most of the skills but need to transport via ambulance. It is too much expense to have a duplicate of services in the City. They got this thing run pretty efficiently. Both sides work quite well together.
Yes they do. When we had emergency calls at the high school, HFD was the first, first responder due to proximity (sometimes with HPD). They would do a wonderful job of stabilization. When EMT would arrive, the hand-off was always very smoothly done. All of those folks are much appreciated.
