California-based Lucky Strike Entertainment will open its Lucky Strike Social concept in more than 25,000 square feet in part of the former Shirokiya location and part of the center’s Ho‘okipa Terrace.

Bowling, arcade gaming, live music and food are coming to a two-level space at Ala Moana Center.

California-based Lucky Strike Entertainment will open its Lucky Strike Social concept in more than 25,000 square feet in part of the former Shirokiya location and part of the center’s Ho‘okipa Terrace.

The four-lane bowling alley will be only part of the venue, designed after the movie “The Big Lebowski.” It also will have a live music area with two stages, and a full bar with a living room setting.

The “For the Win” arcade will offer more than 120 games, from classic boardwalk games to popular arcade games, and Hawaii-born chef Rodelio Aglibat, TLC’s “Food Buddha,” will oversee the menu which will include a poke bar, huli-huli-style chicken, and additional local favorites such as a dish called “Loco My Moco.”

A focal point of the venue will be a 250-square-foot high-definition video wall.

Lucky Strike, also the name of a generations-old brand of cigarettes, is slated to open next summer.

Food Buddha? Wow! How about “Food Yahweh,” “Food Christ,” “Food Jesus,” “Food Jehovah,” or even “Food Mohammed”?

They’ll last a year, maybe two at the very most.

Those cigarettes have put many people in their graves.

I’ve been to the one in San Fran, near AT&T Park. It was a pretty nice spot and I had a good time, but they had more than 4 lanes so we’ll see…

Been waiting for them to open for ages but four lanes is a joke.

I wish they took over Waialae Kahala bowling alley instead of it sitting empty for over a decade.

GGP is desparate to fill all of the empty spaces popping up at Ala Moana. They had nearly three years to lease the old Nordstrom space at Ala Moana but all they have managed to do is lease the ground floor to Saks Off Fifth. They have had four or five large restaurants close and have not replaced them, put Ross in the center and now they put a temporary tenant into the old Shirokiya space that should have been desirable to a large tenant. The fact is Ala Moana is in trouble, for the first time in the center’s history they have increasing vacancies. I doubt the SA will do a story on this on how many tenants have left Ala Moana center over the past 12 months.

A live music area with two stages… in a bowling alley. The sound of bowling balls hitting the boards, and the crash of pins in the background, really enhance an evening of a live concert.

I don’t see it lasting. Probably be super expensive to handle the rent.
