UH soccer falls short at UCSB

The Hawaii soccer team’s attempt to rally all the way back from a two-goal deficit came up short, as the Rainbow Wahine evened it up with UC Santa Barbara only to see the Gauchos prevail 3-2 today in Santa Barbara, Calif.

UH (7-3-1, 0-2 Big West) came up empty on its two-game road trip to open conference play, extending the program’s league losing streak to 10 going back to last year.

After UCSB (10-1-1, 1-0) scored in the second minute and took a 2-0 lead into halftime, UH freshman Tia Furuta scored her first career goal in the 67th minute on a corner kick assist by Raisa Strom-Okimoto. Furuta then launched an assist ball ahead to the feet of Addie Steiner, who equalized the game at 2-2 in the 84th minute.

But a letdown at the other end less than two minutes later did in the Wahine, as UCSB crossed it into the box and put it in at point-blank range in the 86th.

UH travels home to host UC Riverside on Thursday.
