Armed robbers hit 2 Oahu 7-Elevens overnight
Honolulu police are investigating armed robberies that occurred within several hours at two different 7-Eleven convenience stores overnight.
A suspect is in custody in connection with one of the robberies, a police detective said.
The first robbery took place at the Ewa store on Fort Weaver and Renton roads about 10:45 p.m. Thursday. The second occurred at the Westridge Shopping Center store about 1:15 a.m. today.
A person was arrested in connection with the second robbery on Kaonohi Street, the detective said.
It’s unclear if the two incidents are related. Investigations into both incidents are underway.
The incidents are the latest in a rash of such robberies in recent weeks.

These armed robbers are working overtime. Just a matter of time before someone gets shot.
Right, hope PD assembled a task force to resolve issue. These guys are island wide.

Recent story where a criminal had SIXTEEN prior run-ins with the law and was, again, back on the streets to commit another crime. What good reason is there for NOT having a 3 strike rule like some other states? NOT a 16 strike rule. Our judicial system CREATES victims.
I agree with you. But where we gonna put them? Prisons are overcrowded.
Send um to mainland prisons. We gotta pay anyway, so, if they know they not going prison here, they might think twice about committing any crime. Yeah, 16, 17 convictions, etc. is a bit too much in our catch and release judicial system. I think the Kahala burglar had 18 convictions, and he was given a “break” to serve only 5 years by the judge in 2011. Look, he came out in 2016 and did the Kahala burglaries and assaulted a kupuna. I don’t care where they send him, just put him away somewhere.

Build more prisons and raise my taxes to do it. Right now, we’re all paying in personal losses. Once REAL sentences are handed out, criminals would think twice if they knew they wouldn’t be set free in 6 months. THERE’S your payback.
You are correct – it is sickening to hear someone with that many priors is released back into the population to commit more crimes. The 3 strike rule should be law here. When judges release these criminals, they should be required to house them for the first 6mos before they’re released back into society. Now THAT would be interesting.

Are you willing to pay more in taxes for these criminals? Just taking one of these guys to court, locking them up for just say three year, will cost more than the robbers can get for robbing stores over a three year period.
Agree. We need innovative solutions to punishment, such as garnishing their pay to compensate victims, and or GPS units permanently strapped to their body so we can track them if they do more dumb things.
Drop them on Ka’ula Rock. They can work it out among themselves.

ok–enough is enough–armed robbery at 7/11 and they would get a few hundred or less. The SOH Judiciary has to slam these robbers as hard and as fast as it can. 25 yrs sentense and potential for parole after 15 yrs–or longer. this is getting out of hand–to bad we didnt see a different story–the one i was looking for–would be robber is S— to D—- by police after attempting robber at 7/11–the estimated amount take was $10. Eliminate the criminals or we are going to start to see ugly headlines. Remove the trash from society— people–police–judiciary

I don’t think smarts is part of the equation. Back in the 70’s a guy robs BOH in Lihue and rides a bicycle to the airport.

Crimes like this in Hawaii used to be a rare event. Nowadays there’s a bank or store robbery every other day. There’s no easy solution but we should start by locking up only violent offenders. Half the people in jail are there for buying or selling drugs. Treatment is not only cheaper but more effective as well. There’s no need to jail non violent offenders in most cases, civil penalties are enough. If anything prison will turn them into violent offenders, not law abiding citizens.
