Honolulu police and tow truck operators work today at the site of a double fatal crash in Kunia. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash was discovered this morning.

Honolulu police are investigating a single-car crash that killed two men early today off of Kunia Road.

Their names have yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.

At about 9 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle found in the brush area, said Lt. Andre Peters of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

When police arrived, they discovered two men a few feet away from the vehicle. Peters said the victims were dead on arrival.

City Emergency Medical Services said one victim was 32 and the other was in his 30s and they both were dead when paramedics arrived at the scene.

In an emailed statement, Dan Clegg, Hawaii business operations lead of Monsanto Hawaii, said an employee discovered a mangled vehicle at the company’s Kunia farm this morning.

It’s believed the crash occurred sometime at 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. Peters said a dark-colored Honda sedan was traveling southbound on Kunia Road at “a high rate of speed” when it lost control. The vehicle struck a metal guardrail then a tree before it overturned into a brush area.

Peters said the two men were ejected from the vehicle.

The crash scene was roughly a half-mile south of the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation building at Kunia Camp.

Broken car parts were strewn along the shoulder of Kunia Road. Just behind the guardrail, a tree with the top half sheared off was observed in proximity to the mangled vehicle.

It’s unknown whether seatbelts were used at the time of the crash.

HPD’s Specialized Services Division assisted in the investigation after a baby car seat was found inside the vehicle. “SSD did a thorough check of the area and found there was no additional occupants,” Peters said.
