Man charged with shooting sister in Hawaii Kai
A 45-year-old man has been charged for allegedly shooting his older sister in Hawaii Kai.
Jonathan T.C. Tien was charged Saturday with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony. His aggregate bail was set at $500,000.
At about 5:55 p.m. Friday, police said the suspect, later identified as Tien, and the victim, 49, were involved in an argument. The argument escalated and Tien assaulted his sister.
Police said he also assaulted a 14-year-old girl when she tried to intervene.
Tien then used a semiautomatic firearm to assault his sister, causing “substantial bodily injury,” police said.
Emergency Medical Services transported the 49-year-old woman to a hospital in serious condition after she sustained a gunshot wound to her lower extremities.
Police arrived and arrested Tien at Keahole Place shortly after.
