Tecklenburg propels Silverswords to win

Emma Tecklenburg finished with 20 kills and four aces as the Chaminade volleyball team beat Hawaii Pacific 22-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-23 on Friday at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.

The Silverswords improved to 16-11, 11-8 PacWest.

Perla Escobar and Cameryn Collie each had nine kills for the Sharks (7-20, 5-14).

>> Earlier in the day, Chaminade coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke announced the signing of Sacred Hearts’ Tate Lutu.

The 5-foot-9 senior is a three-time Interscholastic League of Honolulu honorable mention selection.

>> Evelin Solyomvari had nine kills, but host Hawaii Hilo lost to No. 2 Cal Baptist 25-12, 25-16, 25-15.

Basia Sauni recorded 16 assists for the Vulcans (8-18, 5-14 PacWest).

Madison Witt had 12 kills for the Lancers (27-0, 19-0).

Vulcans’ rally falls short in Seattle

The Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team staged a huge rally before falling 84-79 to Central Washington on Friday in Seattle.

Ryley Callaghan scored 22 points and Randan Berinobis added 16 for the Vulcans (1-3), who had a 12-minute scoring drought and fell behind 51-28 with 12:50 left. They got within 79-75 with 37 seconds remaining.

Khalil Shabazz scored 25 points for the Wildcats (2-1).
