3 sign with UH-Hilo women’s basketball

The University of Hawaii Hilo women’s basketball team announced the signing of three players for next season, including two from Hawaii island, on Monday.

The players are Konawaena’s Mikayla Tablit, Hilo’s Mandi Kawaha and Maddie Beck of Clarkston (Mich.) High.

Tablit, a 5-foot-5 guard, helped the Wildcats win four HHSAA Division I championships. She was a three-time Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State Fab 15 selection.

Kawaha, a 5-3 guard, was a two-time All-State honorable mention selection for the Vikings.

Beck, a 6-foot guard, helped lead Clarkston to the Michigan Class A Regional Championship title. She earned honorable mention on the Class A Michigan All-State team.

FIREFLY LEADS VIC-MAUI YACHT RACE

Firefly leads after Day 9 of the Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race after roll call was taken Monday.

The 2,308-nautical-mile race started at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in British Columbia and will finish at Lahaina Yacht Club.

Firefly was reported to be 901 miles from the finish. Firefly leads second-place Joy Ride by 22 miles and third-place Salient by 84 miles.
