Waikiki man barricades himself in apartment after alleged threats
Police arrested a man suspect after he allegedly wielded a knife and threatened his roommate and a visitor at an apartment building in Waikiki Monday night.
Police said the suspect was throwing items outside of his apartment when a visitor who is staying in a unit on a different floor of the building went up to the suspect’s apartment at approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday to find out what was going on.
The suspect allegedly threatened the visitor with a knife.
Police said the perpetrator also threatened his roommate with a knife Monday night.
The roommate managed to leave the apartment upon or shortly after police arrived before the suspect barricaded himself in the unit.
At some point, the suspect damaged a responding patrol vehicle after he threw an unknown object at it.
Police shut down a section of Ala Wai Boulevard and the department’s Specialized Services Division, including negotiators, responded.
Police arrested the suspect at approximately 1:05 a.m. today on suspicion of two counts of terroristic threatening in the first-degree and one count of criminal property damage in the fourth degree.
The visitor and the suspect’s roommate were uninjured.
