Pepperdine steals UH women’s basketball opener

Pepperdine’s Paige Fecske hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to give the Waves a 65-64 win over Hawaii in the teams’ 2018-19 season opener at the Stan Sheriff Center tonight.

After a timeout, UH guard Savannah Reier had a mid-range shot to reclaim the lead with five seconds left, but her attempt was short and the Rainbow Wahine dropped their third straight opener.

The Rainbow Wahine shot 7-for-14 on 3s and 25-for-29 at the foul line but negated that with 21 turnovers.

Junior Kenna Woodfolk led the Wahine with 18 points and tied her career high of four steals. Junior guard Courtney Middap added a career-high 14 points and senior point guard Tia Kanoa scored 11.

Fecske, who scored eight points in the fourth quarter, had a game-high 22.

UH now heads out for road games at San Diego State on Friday and San Diego on Sunday.
