Maui firefighters are battling a 75-acre brush fire in Olowalu that started early this morning.

Forty firefighters are fighting the blaze, which has grown due to high winds. The fire is now 80 percent contained as of 5:30 p.m.

The fire began around 2 a.m. and was reportedly about one or two acres at the time above a tomato farm and paintball field, according to the Maui Fire Department in the statement.

Two helicopters are assisting with water drops. The state Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Maui Public Works Department, West Maui Land Co. and Goodfellow Bros. are assisting with personnel and equipment.

No evacuations are in effect and no structures are being threatened. No injuries or damaged property have been reported.
