Strong quake strikes off of Vanuatu, does not pose tsunami threat to Hawaii

A preliminary magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 8:06 a.m., 65.2 miles east-southeast of Sola, Torba, Vanuatu at a depth of 29.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Vanuatu this morning but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The preliminary magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 8:06 a.m., 65.2 miles east-southeast of Sola, Torba, Vanuatu at a depth of 29.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
“Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a bulletin.
