A 56-year-old California man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old child while on a trip to Kauai in May.

Kauai Circuit Chief Judge Randal Valenciano sentenced Mark Price to the maximum 10 years, but gave him credit for time served.

A Kauai County news release said that the minor was asleep when the assault occurred.

Price pleaded no contest in November to one count of second-degree sexual assault. He was initially charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, but the second count was dismissed.

The La Mesa, Calif., man is facing similar charges in California, the Kauai prosecuting attorney said.
