Heavy rain prompts flood advisory for Oahu

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Oahu effective until 6:30 p.m. after heavy rain was detected near Ahuimanu.

According to the weather service, rain was falling at a rate of more than 2 inches per hour. Affected areas include Ahuimanu, Waimanalo, Kailua, Maunawili, Kaneohe, Waikane, Hawaii Kai, Waiahole, Kahaluu, Kaaawa and Punaluu.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff may also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
