Maui pedestrian dies after being struck by car

A male pedestrian died Saturday, three days after he was hit by a car in Kahului, Maui police said today.

On Wednesday, the man was walking across South Papa Avenue near Kaahumanu Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a Honda sedan being driven by a 46-year-old Kahului woman, police said.

The woman was not hurt, but the male was taken to the hospital in stable condition. On Saturday, the male’s condition deteriorated and he died.

An autopsy will be performed to determine his exact cause of death, police said.

The victim has not been identified, and police did not disclose his age or the time of the crash.

This was Maui’s 17th traffic fatality this year compared to the same number at this time last year.
