Residents can expect gunnery, helicopter noise around Schofield Barracks

Marines will be conducting helicopter gunnery practice tonight and Thursday beginning at 9 p.m. at Schofield Barracks, which will mean an increase in noise.

Army officials said the Marine helicopter maneuvers will begin at 9.m and end at midnight.

Other Army training activities scheduled for July include mortar practice July 6-10 and the use of blank ammunition and explosive simulators during daylight and night time hours at Schofield Barracks East Range July 11-31.

The Army plans to hold demolitions training July 11-15 with the Marines using the practice ranges July 25-29 for mortar and artillery training during day and night time hours.

More mortar training is planned by the Army for July 25-30 with demolition exercises to be held July 30-31.

To report concerns related to noise or training, community members can call the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii (USAG-HI) Noise Concern Line at (808) 656-3487 or email usaghi.comrel@gmail.com.

We don’t like the noise but we need the military out here. We don’t have a viable economy so we need the federal money. Also, many of us females do not feel safe out here without the miltiary.

That area is sounding more like Waipahu every day.
