University of Hawaii guard Brandon Spearman put up a shot over Cal State Fullerton's Alex Harris, who tried to draw a foul in the first half on March 8.

Hawaii men’s basketball senior guard Brandon Spearman was honored with a rebranded MVP award on Thursday at the team’s 2013-14 postseason banquet at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

Spearman, a tri-captain, was presented by coach Gib Arnold with the Tip of the Spear Award in place of the traditional Art Woolaway Most Outstanding Player Award.

The rebranded award represents five attributes: humility, enthusiasm, accountability, relentlessness and teammanship, Arnold said.

Spearman was an all-around contributor statistically and a vocal presence for a team that went 20-11, the program’s best record in a decade.

"I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity I had here in Hawaii," Spearman told the banquet crowd.
