Honolulu Police closed Nuuanu Avenue near Judd St. as they investigated a fatal pedestrian accident Tuesday morning.

A 75-year-old man was killed on Tuesday morning after he was hit by a car while crossing Nuuanu Avenue near Judd Street.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was arrested at the scene for suspicion of operating the vehicle under the influence, Traffic Division Lt. Robert Towne said.

Paramedics took the victim, who was in extremely critical condition, to the hospital, where he later died.

Towne said the accident occurred at 5:15 a.m. Police closed a portion of Nuuanu Avenue between Judd and Bates streets for an investigation.

The road reopened by about 7:45 a.m.

Tuesday’s fatality was Oahu’s 34th death, compared to 35 at the same time last year.
