The Minnesota Twins selected Hawaii pitcher Sam Spangler in the 41st round (No. 1425 overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft today.

Spangler was drafted in the 20th round of the 2009 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but decided to return to school for his junior season.

The 6-2, 195-pound left-hander is the fourth player from the Rainbows taken in the draft.

>> Punahou catcher David “Kaiana” Eldredge was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 48th round (No. 1447 overall). Eldredge has committed to Kansas.

He joins Mililani’s Keanu Carmichael, Pearl City’s Chace Numata, and Campbell’s Charles Kaalekahi as players from local high schools taken in the draft.
