Hawaii’s auditor is looking into an information technology company that received millions of dollars in state contracts related to its computerized tax system and a disease surveillance system.

The Legislature called for the audit of Montreal-based CGI Group Inc. to investigate the $25 million contract the company received for the delinquent tax system and several other contracts.

House Finance Committee Chairman Marcus Oshiro says there are questions about the way CGI’s contracts were awarded and a revision of the delinquent tax contract that relieved the company of some of its commitments.

The audit may also examine CGI’s contracts that weren’t competitively awarded, including nearly $35 million in awards by the Tax Department since 2004.
