Big Island police have opened a negligent homicide investigation into a two vehicle crash last night in which a 55-year-old Ocean View woman was killed on Kamaoa Road, 0.7 miles east of South Point Road in the area of Discovery Harbour.

The victim was identified as Marena L. Bohol.

Kau patrol officers responded at 6:44 p.m. and determined that a 22-year-old woman from Naalehu was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck on Kamaoa Road when she crossed the centerline and collided with a 1994 Toyota two-door sedan driven by Bohol.

The victim was dead at the scene and was pronounced dead at midnight at Kona Community Hospital.

Fire Department personnel took the driver of the Ford truck and her passenger, a 55-year-old woman from Naalehu, to Kona Community Hospital. It is unknown what their conditions are at this time.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Bohol’s death.

Police ask that anyone with information about this crash call officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, extension 229.

This is the 18th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared with 11 at this time last year.
